It’s a very special episode of Tosche Station Radio! To celebrate Valentine’s Day, hosts Nanci and Brian take a look at some of their favorite (and least favorite) ‘ships in Star Wars and other fandoms. And we don’t mean the flying kind of ship.
In Fixer’s Flash, the hosts talk about The Phantom Menacein 3D and discuss whether or not the conversion process worked. In addition, it looks like both Nanci and Brian have finally finished The Hunger Games trilogy and offer up their thoughts on the conclusion of a series that’s put them through the emotional wringer.*
*Mostly Brian. This surprises no one.
For Deak’s Dirt, Brian talks about a recent R.A.Salvatore question-and-answer session in which he says that killing Chewbacca in Vector Prime is the only thing he regrets. Brian gets a bit ranty and says that something needs to change in the Expanded Universe as far as killing off characters goes. Nanci’s also feeling a bit of rage over the revelation that Hasbro is thinking about making a new Mara Jade-Skywalker action figure that sports the dreaded catsuit.
Heading into Camie’s Concerns, Nanci and Brian talk about various romantic relationships in the realm of science fiction and fantasy. Couples from Star Wars, The X-Files, the Whedonverse, Battlestar Galactica are discussed. Nanci even dives in to gush about Lois and Clark*.
*Now there’s a show you haven’t thought about since the 90s!

Hmmm. I like this episode a lot, except for two things…
I think there’s more to Twilight than covered here (that being said, it’s certainly not unproblematic, but I just think there’s something to discuss beyond the typical “she’s abused and has a death wish).
Additionally, I was actually really annoyed by the Gale/Peeta/Katniss elements of Hunger Games. But then, I’m not a fan of the series, so I guess I’m out of sync with about 99.99% of all fandom right now. That being said, I still think the “Katniss is sleeping but really listening to the love triangle bickering of the two male leads” scene was incredibly similar to the same scene in the third Twilight novel. And less interestingly done.
and I’m a Buffy/Spike shipper. Hair-gel-boy can go wangst in LA some more. 🙂
Now that I’ve demonstrated my complete lack of taste, I shall quit the field until someone comments back 😉
