This week’s Camie’s Concerns looks into an article Nanci wrote earlier this week looking at gender stereotypes (and why they suck). Nanci responds to a Damon Lindelof (Star Trek 2009) quote and the hosts delve into why assuming women aren’t into science fiction is condescending. The hosts also discuss what really can be done to draw a bigger female audience without coming off as disparaging and out-of-touch.
Finally, the hosts wrap up the show by fielding questions from listeners in our Ask Us Anything segment.

Re: comics
I agree with Nanci – I would rather read a book. There’s something about the medium I that just doesn’t work for me. I’ve really tried hard, but I don’t know if it’s the exaggerated style of the art, or the necessarily stilted and forced dialogue, or the general lack of subtlety . I’ve read graphic novels before (example: Watchmen) and found them a *bit* better, but I still don’t feel it. I recently read the Lost Tribe of the Sith comic series and, well, I really disliked it. This was especially disappointing after how much I loved the Lost Tribe short story collection. I’m trying the Legacy comics now and like them somewhat more. Obviously a lot of effort in conceiving this universe’s future a century on was expended but I find myself thinking while I’m reading, “Boy, I wish someone would write some novels in this timeline.”
Perhaps in a future Toshe Station podcast a comics converter (Bria) or convertee (Brian) could discuss the appeal of the medium.
Also, perhaps you can touch upon Brian’s mention of the prior administrative changes imposed on the whole Yuuzhan Vong arc. While I was aware it was controversial, I was unaware that major content changes happened as a result of high ups meddling…
I’ll have to go digging for it, but while at Origins, Mike Stackpole mentioned that the proposal and original macro outline for NJO was dramatically different than the final result. A big part of the reason, supposedly, was the reception of Episode I by critics, which caused Lucasfilm to get involved and insist on some changes.
