Resistance Review: Station to Station

It’s funny how much better this show gets when we get an episode with Tam. Sure, “Station to Station” doesn’t quite hit the same highs as “Rendezvous Point” but it’s definitely one I enjoyed more than the previous two episodes combined and yes, that’s because Tam was there.

Tosche Station: We have a Tam Ryvora Agenda

The Colossus is in trouble and needs a crucial part fast or else everyone aboard is going to die horribly. Their solution? Send Kaz and Neeku to sneak aboard a similar refueling station to steal one. The problem? 1) It’s under First Order control. 2) Tam and Rucklin have been sent there on a supply run too. 3) Also General Hux is there? Continue reading

On The Continued Importance of Doctor Aphra

Three years ago, I sat down to write a piece titled “On the Importance of Dr. Aphra.” At the time, we were just barely two months past Aphra surviving the end of Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca’s Darth Vader series. That in itself had been enough of a surprise but then, when Marvel gave Aphra her own ongoing series? I was genuinely shocked and in the best way possible. Not only was she the first female character to get a Star Wars ongoing title but she was also one of the first characters unaffiliated with the films or TV shows to headline her own comic or book. And now that comic book has come to an end with the publication of yesterday’s Doctor Aphra #40, a more than respectable run especially in this modern comic book world.

I didn’t think the book would make it past issue #12. I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Continue reading

Resistance Review: Rendezvous Point

GOOD MORNING ONLY TO VENISA DOZA AND TORCH

(Unfollow me now, this episode is gonna be the only thing I talk about for the next week.)

Listen. Here at Tosche Station, we have an agenda and that agenda is Tamara Ryvora. We’re very subtle about it, I know. The point is… we’ve all very much missed having Tam involved in this show for the last few weeks especially given, as Chris pointed out last week, she is featured so prominently in the marketing for this season. I am pleased to report that the riot has been cancelled and she is indeed back this week in what just might be one of the best episodes of the show thus far. Continue reading

Holonet Blast #129

Did you know that Disney+ has launched in the United States? No? Okay then you’ve definitely been living under a rock. We’re now three episodes into The Mandalorian and everything is Baby Yoda and nothing hurts. (Okay one thing hurts but we’ll talk about that in the staff writer round table at the end of the season.) Anyways! We’ve got a new Star Wars movie rapidly approaching which means we have news!

The Rise of Skywalker novelization has an official cover now! It’s pulled from one of the posters and features Rey and Kylo Ren battling it out. In other writing related Episode IX news, both Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will received writing credit alongside J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio. This is due to WGA rules so don’t read too much into it.

Entertainment Weekly continues to be one of the go to places for Star Wars interview despite staff changes and had plenty for those of us eagerly anticipating The Rise of Skywalker this week. They’ve got a full interview/article about the film and debuted a bunch of new pictures. Let us all pause and take a moment to appreciate the beauty that is Finn’s new pants and also Poe’s ‘google earth, always taking photos’ pose.

In other news, John Williams is apparently done with his composing work for The Rise of Skywalker but he and the rest of the Galaxy’s Edge team have been nominated for a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition which is super cool!

And finally, in non-Episode IX related news, VIZ’s manga adaptation of The Legend of Luke Skywalker starts in January.

And that’s it for this week! For those of you in the US, enjoy your turkey dinners and always save plenty of room for pie!

Review: Resistance Reborn

If I had to describe Resistance Reborn by Rebecca Roanhorse in one gif, it would be this one:

Resistance Reborn picks up mere days after The Last Jedi ends. The Resistance is in shambles and able to fit entirely upon the Millennium Falcon plus a few starfighters. No one responded to Leia’s call for help but hope still remains. She’s been fighting for freedom for a long time and there are still some favors she can call in. The First Order hasn’t won yet and Leia Freaking Organa’s not about to let them. Continue reading

Go/No-Go: Star Wars: Resistance Reborn

nasa-mission-control-3Welcome back to Go/No-Go, Tosche Station’s regular feature where we offer our spoiler-free opinion as to whether or not you should spend your hard-earned money on a book, film, or other entertainment. Today on the launch pad: Star Wars: Resistance Reborn. This is author Rebecca Roanhorse’s first foray into the galaxy far, far away and she has no easy task with such a large cast of characters especially since it’s one of the first major stories set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. How’d this story of a Resistance in desperate need of people fare? To mission control for the verdict! Continue reading

Holonet Blast #125

Are you ready for the The Rise of Skywalker trailer tonight? And, more importantly, are you ready to grab your tickets? Happy Hunger Games! (Yes, it’s airing during a football game. No, no one cares that you don’t like sportsball. It’ll be online almost immediately afterwards.)

Disney+ started last week by tweeting every single piece of media that will be on the streaming service when it launches next month. And folks…. it’s a lot. Slightly more relevant to us here is all of the Star Wars content you’ll be able to find there including Episode I of The Mandalorian.

Speaking of The Mandalorian, the press junket was on Saturday and it’s only serving to get me more and more excited for the show. We’ve learned that they’re already a week into filming Season 2! We’ve also got the episode release schedule so plan your lives accordingly.

Finally, we got a sneak peak at The Art of Star Wars Rebels! Written by Dan Wallace, it’s looking to be a gorgeous book.

And that’s all for this week! You may now return to your anxious countdown to the arrival of the new trailer.

Resistance Review: A Quick Salvage Run

Will someone please just treat Tam Ryvora with the love and respect that she deserves and not lie to and manipulate her? Please? Someone? Anyone?

This week’s episode of Star Wars Resistance, “A Quick Salvage Run”, picks up quite soon after the previous one. The Colossus is rapidly running out of supplies including coaxium. They have just enough to make the hyperspace jump to D’Qar where there was a Resistance base. Problem is… the events of The Last Jedi have already begun and there’s nothing left but the remnants of a space battle. Without enough coaxium to make another jump, they’ve got no choice except to hope they can salvage some from the remnants of the First Order’s dreadnought and also hope the First Order doesn’t find them first. Review: Spark of the Resistance

The Rise of Skywalker is coming which means our Journey has begun. (Get it? Get it?) Last week, Lucasfilm kicked off their publishing program with Spark of the Resistance by Justina Ireland, a middle grade novel from Disney Lucasfilm Press. Rey, Rose, and Poe are on their way back from a supply mission when they receive a distress call and decide to investigate. Soon, they find themselves pulled into a fight back against the First Order as our heroes race to stop them before they can find a weapon that could spell disaster for the Resistance.

Oh yeah. And also, there are green murder rabbits. Continue reading
