Star Wars Resistance was… frustratingly good this week. Good because it was a phenomenal episode: Doza family content, Tam’s moral compass, Rucklin being, well, Rucklin, and more. Frustrating because why did it take us so long to get here?

It’s January, and you know what that means – awards season!
And this year, two different Star Wars properties (so far) have a chance to take home some hardware. The Rise of Skywalker was nominated for three different BAFTAs (original score, sound, and special visual effects), while Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, the phenomenal ongoing comic whose run ended in December, scored a nomination for the GLAAD award for outstanding comic book. Not bad for our favorite disaster lesbian! Finally, the Oscar nominations were just announced this morning and The Rise of Skywalker was nominated for Original Score, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.
And in potentially the biggest Star Wars news of 2020 so far, R2-D2 is coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Probably not with a translator though, since we all know R2 can be a little foul-mouthed and there are a lot of kids around at Disney.
That’s another week in the books – now back to feverishly refreshing Twitter to see when they announce details around Project Luminous.
Resistance Review: The Breakout
As we end 2019, I’m happy to say that we’re wrapping up the year the same way we started it. That’s right folks: at least for now, Star Wars Resistance is good again.
This week’s episode picked up right where last week’s “The Missing Agent” left off, showing us what happened to Yeager, Synara, and a thankfully, apparently repaired CB-23 in the wake of their fight with bounty hunter Ax Tagrin. Left without no one to rescue them except Kaz and Norath Kev (voiced by the always delightful Daveed Diggs), one might be forgiven for assuming the First Order had them in their clutches. But fear not, fellow fans – competent Kaz is back in action.
Holonet Blast #132
It’s been a slow week for Star Wars. The calm before the storm. The deep breath before the plunge. The moment of emo silence before Kylo Ren emo screams.
But in fact, while we were all on high alert for the latest clips of new footage from The Rise of Skywalker, there were a couple of bits of information this week about the comics. Speaking of emo screams, StarWars.com gave us our first look at Charles Soule’s upcoming The Rise of Kylo Ren #1, featuring a very destroyed Jedi temple and a very grumpy Ben Solo. You can look forward to reading the whole issue this week when it hits stores on Wednesday, the day before Episode IX changes all our lives.
And, for those of you who were terrified you’d seen the last of Beilert Valance with the end of the Target Vader comic miniseries, fear not (I’m sure there were one or two of you who were worried)! Marvel announced the launch of a fourth ongoing Star Wars comic series, Bounty Hunters, to be written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli. The series will launch in March 2020 and presumably feature bounty hunters, though that’s just a shot in the dark.
Three more days, people. See you on the other side of the Star War.
Resistance Review: Kaz’s Curse
I don’t want to write this review.
There was a time when Star Wars Resistance was my favorite thing happening in Star Wars. Great books, The Last Jedi, news about new TV shows – none of it topped watching what Kaz, Tam, and co. got up to every week. I woke up early on Sundays to watch it (and I don’t wake up early).
And now, in the year of our Force 2019, watching Star Wars Resistance is a chore. This was a bad episode, and this has turned into a bad TV show.
Resistance Review: The Relic Raiders
I should have loved this episode of Star Wars Resistance. “The Relic Raiders” had all the hallmarks of my perfect Star Wars content: weird Force stuff! Indiana Jones-style temple raiding! New characters!
But all I could think of for the entire episode was Where. The. F$@&. Is. Tam.

Who’s ready to watch The Mandalorian in 5 months?!?
That’s right European Star Wars – we finally got an official Disney+ release date for the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and more to come. Fandalorians (not sorry) in those countries will be able to start streaming on March 31, 2020, which means you only need to avoid spoilers for the entire first season. In the meantime, though, you can enjoy the exclusive teasers that Verizon and other companies released on Twitter this week in the lead-up to the U.S. premiere tomorrow.
You know what you can do while you wait, though? Apply for a fan panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim! Applications are due by February 28, 2020, giving all of us plenty of time to come up with a concept, put together a crew, have a crisis of faith that our idea sucks, and put something together at the last minute. A time-honored SWC tradition unlike any other.
The Mandalorian launches in the U.S. this week, along with the release of Jedi: Fallen Order and the book Force Collector by Kevin Shinick. Vader Immortal: Episode III comes out next week on the Oculus Quest and Rift, and we are just about a month away from Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker hitting theaters. We’re in the endgame now.
Resistance Review: Hunt on Celsor 3
So, it turns out — and stop me if this is too shocking — that having pirates on board your ship isn’t always a recipe for success.
Who’d have thought?
In this week’s episode of Star Wars Resistance, “Hunt on Celsor 3,” we learn exactly how much the residents of the Colossus are willing to put up with as they run from the First Order. The problem is, it’s not much. Continue reading
Resistance Review: Into the Unknown
It’s been a long, cruel summer, but we’re back – Star Wars: Resistance premiered its second (and final) season this weekend, picking up exactly where season 1 left off.
As Kaz and company endeavor to keep the Colossus moving (slowly) toward safety (haha, they think… sob…), an old adversary returns – that’s right folks, the First Order ball droid is back and wreaking HAVOC. Meanwhile, Tam adapts to life under a totalitarian regime, and… kind of likes it? Agent Tierney and Commander Pyre continue to stoke her feelings of betrayal by her friends, while giving her the opportunity to achieve her dreams as a fighter pilot. Continue reading
Review: Vader Immortal, Episode II
More than anything else, Vader Immortal: Episode II is a lesson in the dangers of episodic content.
Being one of the relatively few Star Wars fans who can afford to play the Vader Immortal saga has been a bit of a roller coaster: if you look back to my review of Episode I when it first came out, my mind was blown. Two months later, when discussing the experience on Book Wars Pod (shameless plug), I had a lot of nagging issues with the story and the gameplay. With all that said, Wednesday’s surprise release of Episode II made me really excited to recapture the feelings of awe I had when going through the introductory chapter for the first time.
