Now there’s a headline I never in a million years would have imagined I’d find myself writing.
In the latest installment of Star Wars Insider, Rebels executive producer Greg Weisman sat down to discuss what’s in store for the new series. Among the reveals was that the primary cast would be featuring a pair of female leads.
We have two strong female leads in the show among our set of characters and we think they are going to be fan favorites very quickly. That’s always been a personal priority for me in all the work I’ve done, to have a strong and diverse cast of characters, both in terms of gender and race.

Additionally, the official site posted a video interview with Weisman to talk about the new show and answer some questions.
New York Comic Con was this weekend and among the events was the first Star Wars: Rebels press panel of sorts. While we don’t have a release date or any animation from the show yet, new information and artwork was revealed. Most importantly, we learned that Rebels is set to take place fourteen years after Revenge of the Sith and not the eight years that was originally rumored.
Dave Filoni also checked in with a video and made it clear that a large number of The Clone Wars creative crew will be returning for Rebels.
He also introduced the series’ new villain tasked to hunt down the pockets of Jedi that survived Order 66, the Inquisitor.
There was also a look at some concept artwork, such as this great look at the interior of a TIE Fighter.

One sight you may want to keep an eye on moving forward is SienarFleetSystems.com. That certainly is some pretty propaganda material.
Fore more details and artwork, be sure to head over to Club Jade to check out Dunc’s Storify compiling tweets from the event.
And here’s your fifteen second teaser trailer for Rebels on Disney XD.
The one line that caught everyone’s attention on Twitter last night was “The Jedi will rise.” Marketing buzz, or was Order 66 the least effective genocide ever? Who knows! Just keep in mind this was a fifteen second announcement for a show that is still in development, so the only thing anyone knows is that it’s called Rebels and that it’s airing on Disney XD.
First up, the big Rebels rumor right now is that the series may have a timeline placement. Making Star Wars (via the Bleeding Cool podcast) puts it around 8 years after Revenge of the Sith. Is this true? Who knows, but perhaps clarification is coming out of New York Comic Con next week.
@JustinL81 Let’s put a pin in this, and bring it up again after the NYCC panel. 😉

Meanwhile in Episode VII land, Jedi News’ insider claims that Pinewood Studios will be handing the Cinderella stages over to Lucasfilm in November.
Rounding things out, a live-action Star Wars rumbling. According to Blue Sky Disney (via Club Jade), the success of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has Disney thinking about reviving the long-in production, long-on-the-backburner live action Star Wars television series. The trick? It would have to be retooled to be less dark so it could air on ABC.
UPDATE: Apply your grains of salt, but it’s rumored today that Saoirse Ronan, Ben Kingsley, and Sullivan Stapleton have read for Episode VII parts.
Dave Filoni took the stage this morning at Celebration Europe to talk about the new forthcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels. Although there was no trailer since nothing’s been animated yet, the official logo for the show was revealed, as seen to the right.
He also said that the new show be very different visually from The Clone Wars and that the artistic influences of Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art will definitely be evident. Said Filoni, “We wanted to create a look for this part of Star Wars that precedes A New Hope by just a little bit.” and “We have created a set of digital brushes that replicate McQuarrie’s style…We’re going for something that’s much more an illustrative look.” They’re hoping to try and match the look of the Original Trilogy.
Most of what Filoni showed was concept art for the new show and the artwork included a brand new ship that will be central to the main character of the show- the Ghost.
You can read a liveblog of the entire panel by the official site here.
Fans attending Celebration Europe can already look forward to appearances by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Kathleen Kennedy, and a special director’s cut of The Clone Wars Darth Maul arc. Now fans have another exciting panel to anticipate: a first look at Star Wars Rebels, the new animated series set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. While the show won’t premiere until Fall 2014, fans at Celebration Europe will get a sneak peek at the production of the show. Color me jealous!
Celebration Europe is happening July 26-28 in Messe Essen, Germany.
Well, not YOUNGER younger, but think teenagers. Bleeding Cool has another rumor that will interest Star Wars fans.
The title of Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels is loaded with extra meaning.
Not only is the show about the formation of the Rebel Alliance, taking place in the narrative space between Episodes III and IV, the title also riffs on the main characters. I’ve learned that most of them are teenagers. Rebellious teenagers? Well, that’s the reference, at least.
Club Jade wondered if that means a young Leia in the senate or Wedge in the fledgling Rebellion might be in the works. I’ll just say both of those ideas are lovely and I hope they’re being considered.
