The Expanded Universe books panel at New York Comic Con was held earlier today. Among the information dropped were tidbits about upcoming books as well as the reveal of two brand-new titles. Thanks to Aaron Goins for covering the event as well as the official Del Rey Star Wars crew for keeping those of us who couldn’t make it in the loop!

We haven’t heard much about the Kemp duology other than the fact that it will eventually exist. Now apparently we also know it will cause your brain matter to splatter onto the surrounding walls.
More news and announcement below the jump!
Part of “Rebels” series of classic era #StarWars novels, James S A Correy to write Han Solo novel. #SWEU #NYCC

Back at Celebration VI, we first learned of the new Rebels series that would contain a Leia novel (which the audience was VERY excited about). Now we’ve got confirmation that it will also contain a Han book by James S.A. Corey, the pen name for the writing duo responsible for Hugo nominated novel Leviathon Wakes. Definitely an interesting authorial addition to the Expanded Universe writing crew.
On the topic of the Rebel novels, any chance we could get a Wedge book? Perhaps written by one Michael Stackpole? /WhishfulThinking
From our #StarWars panel, Golden’s Sword of the Jedi series will also feature Jag, Tahiri, Ben Skywalker, and Allana. #SWEU #NYCC

Admittedly, I didn’t think too much of this announcement because I had already put it together in my head that Sword of the Jedi would feature more than just Jaina. It makes sense for Jag, Ben, and Allana to be in this book as well. Tahiri I didn’t envision, but it makes sense as well. While Crucible appears to be the passing-of-the-torch novel, this series appears to be where said torch is being passed to. It’s something that fans have been asking for a while. Keep that in mind, they are listening to readers.
Speaking of Crucible …
Crucible wont be the final adventure for the big 3 but it will be a big adventure an will change them forever. A passing of the baton. #SWEU

I suspect this will cause some consternation among Expanded Universe fans. For what it’s worth, this is pretty much what I envisioned Crucible being when it was announced at San Diego Comic Con over the summer. The Big Three probably aren’t going away any time soon, but they won’t be at the forefront of every story anymore. I think that’s a pretty happy medium for fans.

This was perhaps the big surprise announcement. At the very least, it was the announcement that Nanci and I were most excited to hear. Kenobi by John Jackson Miller appears to be an inter-trilogy novel set between Episode III and IV, exploring a period of time that hasn’t really been touched much. This is one book I really can’t wait to hear more about.
Post ROTJ EU fiction is DEAD!! No one is listening to the readers!! Don’t kid yourself! The only thing listed on here that seems interesting at all is Mr. Miller’s Kenobi title.
I have to disagree. Sword of the Jedi is a series that many people have been asking about. I’m definitely anticipating it. Also, I’m certain Aaron Allston will be writing new X-Wing titles soon.
