News! Since the last time the Holonet checked in, some exciting things have happened in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Here’s a rundown:
Adjust your spell-checkers accordingly, Mitth’raw’nuruodo is back in canon!
In a stunning, yet not-altogether-surprising reveal, last week we learned via exclusive excerpt that Grand Admiral Thrawn’s full name is officially part of the current canon. For those of you who need all the Thrawn you can get, the excerpt is here and don’t forget to tune into to Tosche Station’s Thrawncast for an in-depth (and occasionally ridiculous) look at the Grand Admiral’s advent in Legends.
Talking about Yoda, he is not…
…but the legendary puppeteer and the human behind our favorite little green man from outer space is one of the featured subjects of the documentary film “Muppet Guys Talking: Secrets Behind the Show the Whole World Watched” which premiered this week at the SXSW film festival. Although the documentary focuses on the Muppet Show exclusively, the insights in to the life of a puppeteer and into Frank Oz himself are second-to-none. Keep an eye out for the film when it comes to theatres or streaming.
More to Celebrate!
Last week, Starwars.com confirmed that both actors Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) will be in attendance at Star Wars Celebration: Orlando, adding to the already impressive lineup of celebrities. And then, as though that wasn’t enough awesome, only a few days later, they announced that Rebels voice actors Freddie Prinze Jr (Kanan) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Seventh Sister) will also be present for the convention.
POP!
This week, Funko announced the lineup of Star Wars Celebration exclusive POP! Figures. Announced in two volleys, the new toys include Hoth Princess Leia, Rey with her speeder, and the much-anticipated Grand Admiral Thrawn alongside other favorites from all corners of the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Access to the Funko booth at Celebration is by random lottery; the best advice I’ve been given is for fans who are dead-set on owning one or more of these exclusive figures to enter into a Waffle-House-Style lottery pact to increase the chances of getting hold of one during the convention.
Not able to make it to Celebration? Fear not! Many of these figures will be finding their way into stores after their debuts. Yakface has a great guide for where you’ll be able to find them.
Bob Iger talks Star Wars
When the Disney CEO speaks, Star Wars fans listen, and this week he’s said a mouthful. Bob Iger, in an interview published in Variety, gave fans some spoiler-free food for thought about upcoming Star Wars films. He gave us some first notions of what we’ll be seeing on screen in 2018’s as-yet-untitled Han Solo film, and he took a moment to discuss how the franchise plans to deal with the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher last December.
Fit for a Princess
On Saturday afternoon, Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood hills, a public memorial service was held for Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds who both passed away unexpectedly last December. The service was hosted by Todd Fisher and his wife Catherine Hickland and featured performances by James Blunt and the Los Angeles Gay Men’s Choir. As one of the more than 2000 mourners present, I can state with authority that it was a sendoff fit for royalty. My full article on the service will be online later this week.
