More details about Lego’s upcoming slate of Star Wars sets for 2016 are beginning to trickle out. Over the weekend, a sheet of paper included in the Finn minifig polybag was discovered, which includes more official looks at the sets we caught glimpses of back in October, as well as a couple new sets.
In addition, an Instagram user has gotten their hands on the Maz Kanata minifig from The Force Awakens, and we’ll have an image of that after the break!
First off, here’s that Maz Kanata minifig, posted on Instagram:
I can’t tell you how accurate this is to the on-screen representation of Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o’s character in The Force Awakens), as — so far as I’m aware — the only official look we’ve had of her so far is the teeny tiny image in the already-crowded one-sheet. However, just from a sculpt perspective, this is a very nice minifig, with lots of detail and expression in the head piece.
According to Brickset, Maz will be included in the upcoming set The Battle of Takodana, which we haven’t had a look at yet. Once images of that set are released, however, we’ll let you know!
Now, here’s the advertisement included in the Finn minifig polybag, detailing more forthcoming 2016 sets:

Several of the sets here we saw back in October: the speeder bike, the red-and-black Imperial-themed battle pack, Obi-Wan’s Interceptor, and the Bespin and Hoth sets. Sadly, it looks like what we saw of the Bespin set is the extent of that set, and not a smaller corner of a larger set. Interestingly, it appears the same is true of the Hoth set, which would indicate that this is not from the upcoming UCS Battle of Hoth playset (rumored to be around the same size & price as the sprawling Ewok Village set). This gives me hope that maybe we’ll still see a decent-sized Bespin set at some point in the near future, but I suppose I won’t hold my breath.
We’ve got some sets here we haven’t seen before, as well. Bottom left-hand corner looks to be the upcoming Droid Escape set (a re-design of a similar 2012 set). The detailing on either end of the escape pod looks nice, and it’ll be great to finally have an affordable set with a Threepio minifig. I’ll be interested to see what the interior of the pod looks like, but otherwise, I suppose there’s not much that can be done with a set of this size. I would have liked to have seen some Sandtroopers included, perhaps in lieu of the Jawas (maybe even a Dewback), but that’s just a personal preference.
The other two new sets revealed here, on the upper row, appear to be battle packs from The Force Awakens. Nothing much to see there, though it’ll be nice to have the First Order Stormtroopers available in an inexpensive set.
That’s all for now! I’m still wondering what, specifically, the speeder bike and Imperial-themed battle packs are meant to represent. The speeder bike could be from The Force Awakens, I suppose, but the jetpacks still make me wonder if it’s not a Battlefront tie-in. The same could be true of the Imperial battle pack, since those are clearly OT-era Stormtroopers, and yet I have no clue what the little vehicle is meant to represent.
Let me know what you think in the comments!
