Our 2015 Star Wars Superlatives

2015 was a banner year for Star Wars. From Celebration to Comic Con, from Lords of the Sith to Aftermath, from Rebels to The Force Awakens, 2015 had something to appeal to every Star Wars fan. A bunch of us were lucky enough to travel to Anaheim back in April for Celebration, an event that jump-started an already furious fandom. And what better way to end the year than with an all-new Star Wars movie? It doesn’t get much better than that.

Since it’s the end of the year and we’re a website on the internet, we’re obligated to present a list of things we liked best about 2015. We’re pretty sure our list would be “The Force Awakens” a bunch of times, so we decided to mix it up a bit and offer our favorites in different categories, such as books, comics, games, and Rebels episodes. After the jump, we present our 2015 Star Wars Superlatives.

YOUNG ADULT/YOUNG READER BOOK

Nanci: The Weapon of a Jedi by Jason Fry. This is the Luke book of my heart (and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to read it without breaking down in tears after seeing The Force Awakens).

Bria: Lost Stars by Claudia Gray

Saf: LOST STARS by Claudia Gray (I would marry this book)

Brian: Tie for me. Lost Stars by Claudia Gray and The Princess, The Scoundrel, and The Farmboy by Alex Bracken. Excellent examples of YA and young reader that the world really needs more of.

Shoshana: I’m going to continue that Lost Stars love chorus because it is amazing and makes you care enough to tear your heart out. My second choice, to add some more variety, would be Smuggler’s Run by Greg Rucka.

ADULT BOOK

Nanci: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig. The post-Return of the Jedi era is my favorite and I’m eager to read more about what happened in the final stages of the war between the Empire and Rebel Alliance. I love the new characters and cannot wait for more Sinjir Rath Velus. Also, Rae Sloane is a BAMF.

Bria: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed.  This book blew me away and gave me everything I’ve been looking for since the days of the Republic Commando and MedStar books.  Hard military sci-fi is my jam and Star Wars needs more books like this that truly look at the common person serving in the Rebellion military.

Saf: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed

Brian: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig. This book is my jam. Post Return of the Jedi, chock full of Badass Normal characters, homicidal droids, and brilliant antagonists. I will always come back for a book like this.

Shoshana: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig. World building, fabulous new characters, killer droids, and MORE RAE SLOANE. This book is so many of the things I love in one place.

COMIC

Bria: It’s impossible and really not fair to try and just say “Ooo best comic!” so I’m approaching this one differently.

  • Best Ongoing: Kanan by Greg Weisman and Pepe Larraz
  • Best Limited Series: Princess Leia by Mark Waid and Terry Dodson
  • Most Painful Moment That Rips Your Heart Out: Lando #5 by Charles Soule and Alex Maleev
  • Most Badass Moment: Vader Down #1 by Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato

Nanci: Shattered Empire. This is cheating because I didn’t really read any other comics. But the fact that I loved Shattered Empire so much says something about how good it is! Or maybe I just love the Bey-Damerons?

Brian: Shattered Empire. On my list for the same reason Aftermath was. I’m always here for the Badass Normals of Star Wars.

GAME

Nanci: I don’t play a lot of games, but I love watching Brian play Battlefront, so I’ll pick that as my favorite!

Saf: I didn’t play much Battlefront, but what I did play was infinitely more fun than Uprising has been all year, so Battlefront.

Bria: Star Wars Uprising has been a minor addiction for me.  (Look, I can quit anytime I want, okay?)  (Can we just win a Sector Battle in Hoth already???)

Brian: Battlefront, definitely Battlefront.

REBELS EPISODE

Nanci: Wings of the Master. I could watch Hera fly that B-wing for hours.

Bria: Siege of Lothal by far. I will never be over that Vader stuff.

Saf: While it may not be my favourite to rewatch, Legacy ruined me more than any other episode has so far. So, Legacy.

Brian: Wings of the Master. Oh man, B-wing. And that music. And Hera being awesome. Yes, yes, and yes please.

Shoshana: Blood Sisters. I am all for Sabine-centric episodes. And I want more Ketsu.
