Tosche Station Radio #34: Illustrated
On this week’s episode of Tosche Station Radio, Nanci and Brian are joined by blog writer Bria to discuss the latest Expanded Universe novel announcements as well as the Essential Reader’s Companion.
Since the last time we podcasted, Bria reviewed the Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. Nanci started her Jedi Prince retrospective. Emily went to New Mexico and explored some geeky sites. Brian looked at X-Wing’s impossible mission. Bria and Brian wondered who should play Carol Danvers in the Marvel Film Universe.
In Fixer’s Flash, Brian’s been busy reading both War of the Sasons: The Human and The Price of the Stars. He’s also been knee-deep in comics, reading through Captain Marvel #5 as well as Hawkeye 1-3. Nanci’s kept herself busy re-reading the Jedi Prince books for her retrospective as well as the fifth book in the Mageworlds sreies. To complete the trifecta, Bria has also been reading Mageworlds. She’s also found time to get through Vortex and Stephen King’s The Long Walk.
Deak’s Dirt is covering nearly three weeks worth of news, so listen in for a discussion of all things Marvel. The hosts also discuss the Expanded Universe book announcements from San Diego Comic Con, Celebration VI, and New York Comic Con. Everyone seems excited for the John Jackson Miller Kenobi novel as well as the Rebels books.
This week’s Camie’s Concerns dives into The Essential Reader’s Companion by Pablo Hidalgo. Brian, Nanci, and Bria discuss the content, the artwork, and share their impressions of the book. Should you buy it? Listen in to find out!

FYI: Tosche Station’s Social Media Options
Heather over at Zhobot and Dunc at Club Jade alerted me to an issue regarding our Facebook page a little earlier today. Long story short, unless I pay Facebook a rather large sum of money, our link posts there will only hit about 15% of people subscribed to us. Given that I’m already shelling out cash for web hosting, I’m in no particular rush to give Facebook money for a service that used to (and still should) be free.
So if you’ve noticed our posts aren’t appearing on your Facebook timeline as much or at all, you can keep in touch with us in one of two ways. First, you can follow us on Twitter. Second, you can subscribe to our newly created Google+ page. We’ll keep updating the Facebook page, but you may want to give us a follow at one or both of the other options just in case.
Finally, if there is interest, we’ll consider starting up a Tumblr page. If you’d like to see that, let us know in the comments.

The sound you just heard was the Marvel fandom losing their collective minds. Myself included.
Who Should Play Carol Danvers in the MCU?
The Avengers 2 may not be coming out for another two and a half years but casting speculation has already begun and with good reason. Given the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tendencies to introduce characters in their lead up films, there’s a good chance that we’ll be seeing new team members in one of the four Phase Two films currently in production. Ms/Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, is currently one of the superheroes rumored to join the team and with that rumor comes plenty of casting speculation. Earlier, the rumor mill was offering six actresses who are supposedly under consideration and that list has since been narrowed down to two: Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson. Emily Blunt was originally the front runner for Black Widow but had to bow out due to other film commitments. She could certainly be an interesting choice as Carol.
However, what’s the fun in there being casting speculation if we don’t get to join in? With that, we present a few of our own picks for who could step into the role of Carol Danvers in the MCU. To the jump!
Cosplay Monday: Han Solo
Aaaaaand we’re back with Cosplay Monday! This week, we’re featuring an awesome Han Solo costume originally spotted by Club Jade on tumblr. And it’s not just any Han Solo costume… it’s a gender swapped Han Solo costume!
Made and worn by loveandasandwich at New York Comic Con, this is just an awesome costume! I particularly love the Chewbacca backpack because not only is it a creative way to include Han’s partner in crime but it’s also ridiculously adorable! According to her DeviantArt, she also had a Luke Skywalker with her at NYCC as well.
This is just a fantastic costume and was a genderswap very well done.
