Resistance Review: The Core Problem

The First Order is jamming all communication off the Colossus, so Kaz  — aka Lone Wolf — is trying to built a transmitter to break through the jamming and contact Poe Dameron with updates about the First Order presence on the station. Kaz isn’t great at building things, but that’s okay, because Poe Dameron just so happens to show up in Yeager’s hangar at the same time. He needs to take BB-8 on a mission to Jakku. JAKKU. You know, the place where The Force Awakens starts off. He’ll leave CB-23, that cutie, with Kaz to help complete his mission on the Colossus. However, Poe can’t just leave and be done with it. Kaz has intelligence that the First Order is up to something in a sector of the Unknown Regions. Theoretically, the First Order wants the Colossus as a refueling station or base, as it’s the last stop before the Unknown Regions. Poe decides they need to check it out before he heads off to Jakku, because he’s an overachiever. Continue reading

Resistance Review: The New Trooper

This first season of Star Wars Resistance has been a real slow burn–and in my opinion, that’s been the perfect way to introduce audiences to this show. As we watch the First Order begin to creep across the galaxy, the show responds by increasing the tension and getting darker, more ominous. This week’s episode, “The New Trooper,” is a perfect example of Resistance cranking up the atmospheric dread as we get closer and closer to the destruction of the Hosnian system. Continue reading

Holonet Blast #93

The Star Wars Show returned this week, unfortunately not with an Episode IX title as some fans (myself included) have been expecting. Nothing new revealed on this week’s Bob Iger earnings call, either. This past week wasn’t completely devoid of news, however. Onward!

We’re all looking forward to Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston (except for Bria, who’s already read it, hiss [Editor’s Note: IT’S SO GOOD AND I CRIED A LOT]). This week it was announced that audiobook fans have something very exciting to look forward to. Catherine Taber, the voice for Padme in The Clone Wars animated series, as well as numerous other Star Wars voice acting credits, will be narrating the audiobook. The long-awaited Padme story is scheduled for release on March 5. E.K. Johnston will be promoting the novel on tour along with Amy Ratcliffe and Cat Taber.

In other book news, writer and illustrator Jeffrey Brown has yet another Star Wars book for young readers, Rey and PalsWhat would life had been like had the Sequel Trilogy characters grown up together? Jeffrey Brown’s novels are the cutest form of AU fanfiction and I’m excited to see what he comes up with next. The release date is yet to be announced.

Finally, for Fantasy Flight fans (and we have several on this blog), a new board game was announced. Outer Rim is described as “a game of bounty hunters, mercenaries, and smugglers for one to four players.” Of relevance to readers of this blog (and Bria), one of the cards is for Dr. Aphra. Outer Rim will release in the second quarter of 2019.

And that’s it for the news! Will we finally get an Episode IX title next week? Only time will tell.

Book Wars Pod, Episode 77: Nerdlings

Download

For Miranda‘s first official episode as a pod co-host, we’re discussing LEIA: PRINCESS OF ALDERAAN by Claudia Gray! This week, we’re charting Leia’s character growth throughout the known Star Wars timeline, her life of privilege (and what she chooses to do with it), and the different faces of war. Plus, Chris has a lot of feelings about Moff Panaka and Leia being Padme’s daughter.

This podcast is NOT spoiler-free and covers chapters 1-14. It also mentions plot points from BLOODLINE by Claudia Gray, which we read in our episodes 4-8.

Resistance Review: The First Order Occupation

What I really appreciate about Star Wars Resistance right now is that Lucasfilm is resisting the urge to make Kaz a super-spy by the end of season one. Sure, he’s gotten (marginally) better at… existing by now, but he is still the worst spy in the galaxy far, far away this side of Jar Jar Binks in The Clone Wars. It’s endearing, and it leaves a ton of room for character development. Continue reading

Holonet Blast #92

Good morning and we hope you all enjoyed the Puppy Bowl yesterday! Actually, that makes me wonder… what’s the Star Wars equivalent of the Puppy Bowl? The Lothcat Bowl? Regardless… I’d watch it.

Speaking of sporting events, LEGO Star Wars is celebrating their 20th anniversary with five new vehicle sets including Anakin Skywalker’s podracer! That set also includes a minifig of Padmé in her peasant disguise and yes I need it.

Celebration guest announcements continue with yet another batch of actors including Ashley Eckstein (who I thought had already been announced before this, whoops), John Ratzenberger (Brian is thrilled!), and Katy Karwheel (who did the physical performance for Rio). You can read the entire list here.

In awesome news, our favorite rogue archaeologist’s comic book was nominated for an Outstanding Comic Book GLAAD award. Congratulations to everyone involved with Doctor Aphra.

Finally, Lucasfilm announced, to much hype, their Galaxy’s Edge books and comics that will allow everyone to step into Batuu. In addition to the previously announced comic series coming in April, fans can look forward to a novel from Del Rey and by Delilah S. Dawson titled Black Spire that appears to star Vi Moradi, a YA novel by Zoraida Córdova titled A Crash of Fate, and Star Wars: Myths and Fables by George Mann which is exactly what it sounds like. You can check out the entire line at the link above but needless to say, we are hyped! Being able to walk into this park with this extra knowledge is going to be (as a certain boy on Tatooine would say) so wizard!

And that’s it for this week!
