Holonet Blast #89

Hello and welcome back to yet another episode of Holonet Blast. Edition. We mean edition, not episode. (Listen, it’s Monday morning.) It was a quieter week than last but it’s quality over quantity, right?

First up, Star Wars Resistance is back! If you haven’t watched it yet, go watch last night “Bibo” and then read our review. The mid-season trailer made us feel a lot of things and this is fine, everything’s fine, NO ONE IS GOING TO DIE! Resistance has been renewed for Season 2 which generally delights us around here. Seriously, why are some of you sleeping on this show?!

Star Wars Celebration guest announcements are rolling in again and this time, it’s voice actors! Expect to see Resistance’s Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence; James Arnold Taylor, Matthew Wood, and (the person who made my text and Twitter notifications break) Janina Gavankar! All six will be at the convention signing autographs and meeting fans.

Finally, in sadder news, it seems that Kieron Gillen will be leaving the main Star Wars comic after issue #67/the “Scourging of Sho-Torun” arc. Per his newsletter, “No present plans to write anything else in Star Wars – I suspect I’ve said all I’ve wanted to about these characters in comics. At least in this period, anyway.” (H/T to Comics with Kenobi for catching this.)

And that’s all for this week!

Resistance Review: Bibo

Hey, is this thing on? Oh, good–because Star Wars Resistance is back after its mid-season hiatus with a delightful little episode called “Bibo.”

Longtime Lucasfilm animation fans know that it’s just not a Star Wars cartoon without at least one creature-centered episode, and “Bibo” fits that bill with relish, while hinting at exciting things to come.

This week, we’re starting THRAWN: ALLIANCES by Timothy Zahn! We’re discussing the setting’s close ties with both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, how younger Thrawn compares to older Thrawn, and the differences and (many, many) similarities between Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader.

This podcast is NOT spoiler-free and covers the start of the book through chapter 6.

Book Wars Pod explores the Star Wars universe through the franchise’s non-screen media: the canon novels, comics, and video games. Holonet Blast #88

We’ve taken a few weeks off to celebrate the holiday season, but the Holonet Blast is back and better than ever! Well, at least we’re back. Let’s check up on the news for the past three weeks, shall we?

Last time, the official cast for The Mandalorian was finally announced. While Brian and I were on a cruise (because some news has to drop whenever we’re on a boat), it was announced that Black Panther composer Ludwig Goransson would score the limited series. This is a great announcement, as Black Panther was one of my favorite scores of 2018 and I can’t wait to hear what Gorannson brings to the Star Wars universe.

In Galaxy’s Edge news, Disney Parks added a landing page for the Star Wars themed expansion to their website. Explore everything we currently know about Galaxy’s Edge and keep up to date on all the latest news. Galaxy’s Edge will open in Disneyland in Summer of THIS YEAR, with the Walt Disney World section opening in the Fall. One of the things we’ll be able to consume in Galaxy’s Edge is Star Wars themed alcohol. WDWNT sacrificed one for the team by visiting Concrete Beach Brewery in Miami, which has produced some beers sold in Disney Parks. One of their current selections is “Galaxy’s Edge Ale.” It’s uncertain whether this is the final product that’ll be sold in the parks or not, but WDWNT reviewed the ale and enjoyed it!

One of the characters we’ll encounter in Galaxy’s Edge is our favorite space pirate, Hondo Ohnaka. Readers can get a peek at Hondo, along with the planet Batuu and Black Spire Outpost, in the new young reader novel Pirate’s Price, which is part of the Flight of the Falcon series. Star Wars dot com posted an excerpt of the novel, which is out Tuesday, written by Lou Anders and illustrated by Annie Wu.

Have you missed Star Wars: Resistance? Well, good news! The show is back this Sunday and there’s a new trailer to hype us up for the second half of the seasonResistance has been a high point for me, and I can’t wait to see more from Kaz and friends.

Getting hyped for Star Wars Celebration? Good news: Warwick Davis is back as the Celebration Stage host! There’s only three months until the Chicago convention, which seems REALLY soon, and I can’t wait to get more guest announcements.

Finally, Entertainment Weekly kindly put together a primer of all the Star Wars content being released in 2019. From the season finale of Resistance to the return of The Clone Wars, from Celebration to Galaxy’s Edge, from Queen’s Shadow to Thrawn: Treason, from The Mandalorian to Episode IX, there’s literally something for every Star Wars fan. I’m exhausted just reading about it all.

That’s all for this “catch up” week of the Holonet Blast. May the Force be with you!

Holonet Blast #87

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Holonet Blast where we’re anxious awaiting to see what other news might drop this week while Brian and Nanci are ONCE AGAIN ON A BOAT. I’m banning them from boats if anything big drops in the next few days. Boats are now bad.

In our biggest news, the main cast for The Mandalorian was announced this week. As was rumored, Pedro Pascal is the lead and we’re getting GUS FREAKING FRINGE in Star Wars?! Also, Werner Herzog? WERNER HERZOG? This is madness, y’all.

If you’ve been waiting to watch Solo: A Star Wars Story with a click of your remote, it’s coming to Netflix on January 9th! Expect an uptick in my tweets about my precious daughter Qi’ra. Tragically, Rogue One is leaving Netflix on January 18th because the Force giveth and the Force taketh away.

Finally, if you’re missing Star Wars Resistance already, head on over to the Disney Channel’s YouTube channel! Over the next few weeks, they’ll be posting 12 new shorts to help tide you over. The first three are already live and pretty adorable. Resistance will be back sometime in January.

This is our final Holonet Blast for the year because it is the holidays and your resident Managing Editor would like to take a nap for the next two weeks. We’ll be back in the New Year.
