Holonet Blast #85

Happy Hanukkah to those that celebrate it and happy winter/summer depending on your hemisphere to those that don’t! Welcome to another addition of Holonet Blast!

On Friday, the first six shorts of Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures, a new animated series for little ones, premiered on the official site and on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel. The focus of the series is to “introduce the classic themes, pivotal moments, and iconic characters from the Star Wars saga to the next generation.” Keep an eye out for more shorts in December and regular releases in 2019.

In more somber news, Gloria Katz, Oscar-nominated screenwriter for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, American Graffiti, and many other films, has passed away at the age of 76. We wish the best to her family and loved ones during this time.

That’s it for this week, have a good one and, if you’re in the Anchorage area, remember to boil your water before using it until the water and waste systems are checked for earthquake damage and cleared as safe!

Holonet Blast #84

Welcome to another exciting week of Star Wars news…. oh… what’s that, nothing actually happened this week?

Turns out it’s not just us little people who take a break for Thanksgiving, everyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The only news we got was an announcement of some of the artists and authors who will be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Chicago next year – a list that is sure to grow as we get closer to the big event. I, for one, am already looking forward to freaking out over whatever new books they announce at the publishing panel.

And, honestly? That’s it. Hope you all (at least, any American readers) had a lovely Thanksgiving eating food, spending time with your loved ones, and being excited about Star Wars because it’s great, and we should always be excited even if nothing’s happening. Happy Monday, and here’s a picture of my pet hamster as filler for the rest of this post.

Holonet Blast #83

Heeeeeello and welcome to another edition of the Holonet Blast that will not feature any casting discussion for The Mandalorian since they’re all still rumors! Remember kids: it’s not confirmed until it’s on Star Wars dot com.

In confirmed news, we got a TON of amazing new information about Galaxy’s Edge including new John Williams composed music for the parks!!! Honestly… just go read up about it. I can’t do it just. This came one day after blueprints for the hotel planned for Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World surfaced. Warning: there’s going to be a reeeeeally long waiting list given the hotel’s capacity.

The closer we get to Celebration Chicago, the more these new blasts will be filled with guest announcements and we’re already getting a few. The Second City will be gracing Celebration with their presence. I have no idea who that is aside from the blerb about them but some folks seemed pretty excited so yay! Rob Bredow, Head of ILM, was also announced as the very first guest.

And finally, in not!Star Wars but still pop culture relevant news, Stan Lee passed away last week. We here at Tosche Station are grateful for his contributions to the comic book and superhero world and our thoughts are with his family.

Resistance Review: Signal from Sector Six

“I hate monkeys. I hate them so much.” – A real thing that Star Wars Resistance writers made Oscar Isaac say.

This week’s episode, “Signal from Sector Six,” took us off the Colossus and into a hoard of screaming simians as Kaz and Poe (returning for the first time since the show’s pilot episode) investigate a distress signal from a derelict freighter and get more than they bargained for. In addition to giving Kaz a taste of real action – a taste that he didn’t seem to particularly like – they also met Synara, a survivor of the wreckage who isn’t who she claims to be. Holonet Blast #82

Hey everyone, it’s time for another Holonet Blast! Unlike last week, we actually have some news. BIG news, as a matter of fact.

First, ILM has launched a new venture called ILM TV, to focus on visual effects and animation projects beyond the Big Screen. This makes perfect sense, as the first live-action TV show, The Mandalorian, recently started production. ILM TV will be based out of London, with offices in Singapore, San Francisco, and Vancouver. Leading the ILM TV team are Visual Effects Supervisors Hayden Jones and Jonathan Privett, as well as Executive Producers, Louise Hussey and Stefan Drury. The first projects are The Mandalorian and Syfy’s Krypton.

But that’s not the only TV oriented news we got last week. On November 8, during an earnings call, Disney chief Bob Iger announced the second Star Wars live-action show, starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor! The show will be a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (obviously), and will follow Cassian as he works as a spy in the Rebel Alliance. All those terrible things he did in the name of the Rebellion? The fight he’s been in since he was six years old? Yeah, we’re gonna get to see that! According to starwars dot com, “The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.” Oh yeah, count me in, big time. No release date has been set, nor do we know about any other characters who may feature, although I’d say it’s a safe bet to assume we’ll eventually see K-2SO.

Personally, I’m thrilled to see a character like Cassian return for a live-action series, and hope there will be even more of these short-term series coming to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney +.
