The final arc of Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman’s fantastic Star Wars comic continues as Legacy #17 hits comic store shelves today! (And this review continues to be sad that we’re in the last few months of this book.)
Ania and company have followed the coordinates from Jao’s transmission to the rogue planet but their mission to rescue the Imperial Knight is far from over. They no more free Jao from his bonds when a literal army of Sith arrive hell bent on taking out Darth Wredd once and for all!
Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman certainly know how to set their readers up for an incredible finale. Ania, Sauk, AG-77, and their stormtroopers have rescused Jao only to get caught in the middle of a grudge match between the Sith and Darth Wredd. To top it all off, reinforcements are on their way. By the last page, readers are certainly going to be ready for an incredibly explosive final issue. This is an action packed book that’s well paced enough so readers never have a moment to get bored but not so fast that readers are left behind in the dust.
Once again, Beckho and Hardman show that they excel at writing characters without sacrificing anything else. They’ve never neglected their core cast even though they’ve brought in more characters to help flesh out their cast. As I’ve said before, I’m particularly impressed with their use of Marasiah Fel in the last few issues. What they’re doing with Jao Assam is also intriguing especially given the taglines for the next one and how determined he seems to not stray from his morals and his mission. Honestly, there are really only ever good things to say about the writing and the characterizations in this book and that’s a fare feat in both the comic book and Star Wars worlds.
On an artistic point of view, Brian Thies continues to be an excellent choice for this book. There’s no gratuitous posing or sexual fan service in this book. Instead, we get such glorious practical things as Ania Solo tying her hair back before combat! I’m not being sarcastic in the least here. It might seem a small detail but women in combat are infrequently depicted tying back long hair in this medium.
Star Wars: Legacy #17 gets a 5/5 from me this week.
