Christopher Miller and Phil Lord to Direct Han Solo Anthology Film

Hey look news! Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (of 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie fame), have been confirmed to be directing the second anthology film Josh Trank departed. More than that, we now know that the film is going to be about Han Solo.

The next adventure in the Anthology series of Star Wars films will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, whose credits include the critically acclaimed The LEGO Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, as well as 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. Among the most sought-after filmmakers working today, the two have proven a formidable duo on the multiple films they’ve collaborated on and are looking forward to applying their unique creative chemistry to the Star Wars universe.

So this is going to be a Solo origin movie. Okay, but a Solo origin movie with Lord and Miller? They could do a Boba Fett film and I’d be able to enjoy it (anyone who has listened to the podcast knows how outlandish that statement is).

If you haven’t seen The LEGO Movie, you need to go get yourself a copy, because that’s perhaps the best insight into how well this duo works together.

Review: Star Wars: Rebel Heist #1

The Dark Horse contract may be winding down but they certainly have no intention of going quietly into the night!  Rebel Heist #1 by Matt Kindt and with art by Marco Castiello hits comic store shelves today and with it comes your new monthly dose of the one and only Han Solo.  (Solo what a man Solo!)

This review contains mild spoilers.

Jan, a new recruit to the Rebel cause, is on his very first mission for the Alliance.  He’s sent to Corellia and told that a more experienced Rebel operative will find him.  Only problem is that said Rebel is the one and only Han Solo.  Whether or not that’s really such a problem is up for debate though as they try and evade the Empire.

A Cry for Practicality in Star Wars Fashion

It’s no secret that we at Tosche Station dislike Mara Jade’s catsuit. The reasons are many: it’s a symbol of sexism and objectification of female characters; it’s not what she’s described as wearing in the Thrawn Trilogy; we hate seeing her in the same outfit all the damn time. My dislike–even hatred–of the catsuit comes down to one simple matter.

It’s not practical.

Rumor: Entertainment Weekly Reports Solo, Fett Potentially Getting Standalones

Yesterday Disney’s Bob Iger confirmed that, yes, there will be standalone films coming to the Star Wars universe. Today, Entertainment Weekly suggests that two of those films may center around a young Han Solo and Boba Fett.

Sources close to the projects confirmed this was the direction the development was taking, although they cautioned it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered futher. Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the information.

The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.

Keep in mind that this rumor kind of flies in the face of Iger saying yesterday that the standalone films would focus on characters not involved with the Saga.

You can probably guess that I’m very meh oh the possibility of a Fett movie (must he be in everything?) and intrigued by the possibility of a young Han Solo movie, even if it will likely wipe out years of established Expanded Universe canon. Seriously folks, embrace the multiverse. It’ll make your head hurt less in the long run.

As for why I’m meh on Fett? Come on. Dude is terrible at his job. 

Cosplay Monday: Han Solo

Aaaaaand we’re back with Cosplay Monday!  This week, we’re featuring an awesome Han Solo costume originally spotted by Club Jade on tumblr.  And it’s not just any Han Solo costume… it’s a gender swapped Han Solo costume!

Made and worn by loveandasandwich at New York Comic Con, this is just an awesome costume!  I particularly love the Chewbacca backpack because not only is it a creative way to include Han’s partner in crime but it’s also ridiculously adorable!  According to her DeviantArt, she also had a Luke Skywalker with her at NYCC as well.

This is just a fantastic costume and was a genderswap very well done.
