Here’s something we haven’t done before: a side gameplay episode! Of Dice and Droids has always had a goal of demystifying tabletop gaming. We wanted to take that one step further this week by playing through the Age of Rebellion beginner game using only the character sheets and GM adventure book that comes in the box to show that pen-and-paper RPGs aren’t as daunting as they look. While Nanci and Saf have played before, this is Brian’s first experiencing in the role of Game Master and is the first time guests Sarah, Maia, and Mike have played a tabletop game of any sort.

If we can play through this and make it work (we did!) anyone can. Go find some friends, pick up a copy of one of Fantasy Flight’s beginner games, and have fun!

The galaxy stands on the edge of a blade. The struggle for control is constant, with crime cartels and gangs seizing even the smallest opportunities to gain an advantage.

One such opportunity has presented itself to the Mytaranor Group a trading syndicate operating outside of the Empire’s control. The Hutt Cartel – normally Mytaranor’s rivals, are offering a place at the bargaining table for the Group, but they are not alone.

Wary of Hutt treachery the leaders of Mytaranor look for a means to sway the negotiations, calling upon a trusted team of outsiders with aims to rig the game in their favor before it even begins.

Drinking Quest: Interview with Jason Anarchy

There’s not much I enjoy more than a round of Dungeons & Dragons (or, no doubt, Of Dice and Droids) with a bottle of cider at my side, but there’s probably not much my DM and co-players hate more than a tipsy Saf making critical decisions. When I first heard about Jason Anarchy’s Drinking Quest, I near leapt from my seat with excitement. A role-playing game that is also a drinking game is right up my friends’ and my collective alley.

With an emphasis on responsible drinking and an easy system that can be picked up in the first couple minutes, Anarchy has built both a humorous and smart card-based tabletop RPG perfect for a Friday evening with the gang.

Though Anarchy is Canadian, PAX Aus gave me the opportunity to interview him and talk to him about both Drinking Quest and other tabletop games.

Welcome to Of Dice and Droids, an all-new Star Wars tabletop RPG podcast here at Tosche Station. Nanci and Brian are joined by players Sho, Jay, Rocky, Saf and Game Master Tom for an adventure-filled trip into the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

This is a special introductory Episode Zero where we’ll introduce ourselves and our characters, provide an overview on tabletop gaming, the mechanics used by the Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPG games, answer some reader questions, and provide the first glimpse at the campaign.
