Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s New on the Blog.  Bria started her new blog project, the Hondo Caravan. She also reviewed 2013 in the Expanded Universe…which we’ll get back to shortly. Brian and Nanci did a Go/No-go for Ender’s Game. Brian reviewed the The Haynes Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual by Ryder Windham, Chris Reif, and Chris Trevas. Bria reviewed The Star Wars #3.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been busy reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. She’s knee-deep in NaNo, but still found time to watch Ender’s Game. Both Brian and Nanci watched Thor in preparation for The Dark World. Bria. Bria’s kept herself busy with duolingo. She also attended a Pretty Deadly signing and met awesome person Kelly Sue DeConnick

There’s not a whole lot in Deak’s Dirt this time. UK Casting Call for Episode VII? Also a US call? Dennis Barbie tweets that Episode VII will be coming “end 2015,” but he backtracked later in the day. In comics news, the new Ms. Marvel is a Muslim shapeshifting teenager! Awesome!

On Camie’s Concerns, staff writer Bria joins the hosts to take a look back at the year that was in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. What books stood out? What books fell flat? Which book got everyone angry ranting and which book had everyone gushing? Wrapping things up, everyone discusses the trends noticed in 2013 and what we hope to see in 2014.

Finally, the hosts field questions in Ask Us Anything.

On this episode of Tosche Station Radio, the hosts sit down to talk with author Janine Spendlove.

Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s New on the Blog. Nanci reviewed of The Making of Return of the Jedi and did a spoiler free  Go/No-go of The Darwin Elevator. Meanwhile, Bria reviewed The Star Wars #2.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci finished reading The Darwin Elevator. Both the hosts caught up with Once Upon a Time and watched The Last Starfighter.

Deak’s Dirt this week starts with Kotaku’s profile of the LucasArts collapse. J.J. Abrams appearance on PBS to talk Star Trek and Star Wars and reassured fans that the franchise wouldn’t be Disneyfied. Dark Horse entered into a distribution partnership with Random House. In the Rumor Roundup, there’s rumblings of live-action Star Wars and  a time placement for Rebels. Apply your grains of salt, but it’s rumored that Saoirse Ronan, Ben Kingsley, and Sullivan Stapleton have read for Episode VII parts.

We’re lucky to have War of the Seasons author Janine Spendlove join us on this week’s Camie’s Concerns. We talk with Janine about Star Wars, conventions, her writing process, and her work on novels and her short stories. Be sure to visit her site and check out War of the Seasons and anthologies she’s featured in!

Tosche Station Radio #70: Pilot

On this episode of Tosche Station Radio, it’s a look Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and other television pilots!

Kicking off the show, the hosts discuss what’s New on the Blog. It was Razor’s Edge release week, so we’ve got our usual Go/No-Go spoiler-free take on whether you should buy the book or not, a review from Bria, and a look at how Martha Wells’ use of Leia differs from Brian Wood’s interpretation in the Star Wars comic. Bria also reviewed the latest issue of Star Wars Legacy.

In Fixer’s Flash, both the hosts got in on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D viewing party. There was also a day at the Disney parks crammed in there somewhere.

Deak’s Dirt starts with the usual: Episode VII casting rumors. There was a Wookiee casting call, rumors of David Oyelowo being cast in both Episode VII and Rebels, and more rumors about the main Rebels voice cast. And even more we don’t have the time or gumption to mention. Dark Horse announced that a new comic series will continue the story of Firefly, picking up where Serenity left off. As we previously discussed, Razor’s Edge released this week. We’ll be doing a roundtable discussion within the next few weeks (once Nanci gets off her butt and reads the book). Up next is JW Rinzler’s The Making of Return of the Jedi out on October 1. Jennifer Heddle announced on Twitter that there will be a sequel to William Shakespeare’s Star Wars, titled The Empire Striketh Back.

This week on Camie’s Concerns, Wrong Opinions About Movies’ host Alli joins us to talk television pilots. The discussion starts with a look at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and then dives into other pilots that may have been more or less effective.

On this episode of Tosche Station Radio, the hosts are back and recapping Dragon Con!

Kicking off the show, there’s a bit of housekeeping. We’ve been away for a while, but hope you enjoyed our interview with John Jackson Miller and our episodes recorded live at Dragon Con. We conned Bria and Emily into stepping in for us one week, and now they have their own show! Be sure to check out their monthly show, Women of Odd Enthusiasms.

The hosts proceed to highlight what’s New on the Blog. Bria reported on her time at Baltimore Comic Con 2013.She also reviewed Legacy #6 and The Star Wars #1. Nanci discussed a certain plot twist in Kenobi and how it made her evaluate her own assumptions. Speaking of Kenobi, we have reviews by Brian and Bria. Spoilers: we all loved it. Bria reviewed another SWEU item: Jedi Academy by Jeffrey Brown. Emily gushed about the podcast Welcome To Night Vale. As we previously mentioned, we have a ton of content from Dragon Con! Be sure to check out our live recordings of the Introduction to the Expanded Universe panel, the Star Wars Authors panel, the Blogging, Podcasting, Vidding, and Fanfiction panel, the Women and Minorities in Star Wars panel, and the Conspiring for Fun and Profit panel.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been busy reading The Darwin Elevator and writing a short space western story. Brian’s been reading through Razor’s Edge while both hosts recover from con season.

Deak’s Dirt starts with some news outside of the Star Wars fandom. J.K. Rowling is writing a Harry Potter spinoff film based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In a Reddit AMA, Seth Green addressed the status of Detours. According to him, it’s just on hold. J.J. Abrams is setting up a post-production facility for Episode VII in Los Angeles. Episode VII rumors! They exist! Don’t fall for them. Del Rey released the blurb for Honor Among Thieves by James S.A. Corey. Finally in some sad news, Expanded Universe author and publisher watchdog A.C. Crispin passed away.

In this week’s Camie’s Concerns, the hosts finally sit down to recap their Dragon Con experience. From panels to workshops and costume photoshoots, it was certainly one convention to remember!

Wrapping up the show, the hosts field questions in Ask Us Anything.

It’s the first of two Dragon Con themed episodes! This week, we sit down with Aaron Goins in the mobile podcast command base (it’s a thing we just made up, run with it) to discuss the first few days of Dragon Con. We dispense with the usual format this week, but we do have an installment of Camie’s Concerns to bring to you.

While at Dragon Con, Nanci and I were on a Women and Minorities in Star Wars panel along with Luci Lockhart, Amy Ratcliffe, and our staff writer Bria. The hour-long recording has been included as a part of this podcast episode and we do hope you enjoy it.

Next week, we’ll be back to normal and should (hopefully) be featuring author Janine Spendlove to recap Dragon Con, talk about her books, and writing in general.

Now that we’re back home, we can get a stable internet connection to deliver a few more recordings of panel audio from Dragon Con. This one was a real treat. Timothy Zahn, Mike Stackpole, and Aaron Allston got together to discuss what it was like collaborating on the Expanded Universe. As a bonus, listen as a book idea is born (and as Mike said, look out for the Kickstarter).

Another treat from last night at the Star Wars track at Dragon Con: the Star Wars Authors panel. The event featured audience questions and was moderated by Bryan Young. The lineup:

  • Mike Stackpole
  • Aaron Allston
  • Kevin J. Anderson
  • Timothy Zahn

Some interesting tidbits in there about the process behind creating Star Wars novels and there’s even some debunking of rumors.

Today Nanci and I will be on the Podcasting/Blogging/Fanfiction/Vidding panel at the Star Wars track. Audio from that panel will be available tomorrow morning.

We’re celebrating Kenobi release day on this episode of Tosche Station Radio and to mark the occasion, we’re talking to John Jackson Miller!

The show notes are brief this time around, because we’re skipping Fixer’s Flash and Deak’s Dirt so we can jump straight into this week’s Camie’s Concerns. Kenobi author John Jackson Miller joins the hosts and staff writer Bria for an in-depth, spoiler filled discussion of the book. If you’ve already read it, enjoy the interview! If not, go buy the book right now. We promise, you won’t be disappointed. But again, SPOILERS.

You can find John Jackson Miller online at FarawayPress.com and on Twitter.

As a final note, the hosts are heading to Dragon Con this week! If you’re going to be there, you’ll have a chance to win some great Expanded Universe reading material. Among the books we’re giving away is a copy of Kenobi and the Essential Reader’s Companion. Come to the Intro to the Expanded Universe panel in the Star Wars track room for your chance to win those. We’ve also got a copy of Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void we’ll be giving away at the Women and Minorities in Star Wars panel.

Tosche Station Radio #66: Execute Episode 66

On this episode of Tosche Station Radio: while the hosts are out, the staff writers play.

With Nanci and Brian unavailable to podcast for the rest of August, staff writers Emily and Bria agreed (read: were conned into) to pinch hit as podcast co-hosts!

With a lack of new blog content, the guest hosts kick things off with Fixer’s Flash. Emily’s been up to her eyeballs in dissertation fun, but has found some time to get some Minecraft in. She’s also been reading Chris Kluwe’s Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies. Bria took part in Jaeger Con and found some time to work on a new Leia costume. She also finished reading The Killing Moon and is about to start an ARC of Razor’s Edge.

Deak’s Dirt starts with a bit of comic news as Dark Horse released a trailer for their new series The Star Wars There was no Episode VII news out of D23 (as expected) but we’ll be getting the film in Summer 2015. Rumors that Ian McDiarmid could be in Episode VII hit the Interwebs. Tested.com featured a special making of video of Adam Savage’s Admiral Ackbar costume from ComicCon for GeekWeek last week, and viewers can also find a video featuring the special effects of Wired’s giant robet mecha on tested.com as well.

Guillermo Del toro made an appearance at Jaeger Con. Pemberley Digital is getting ready to start Emma Approved

On Camie’s Concerns, Emily and Bria dive into the topic of live action Star Wars television. What could it be and what would the hosts like to see?

Wrapping up the show, the guest hosts field questions in Ask Us Anything.
