The Enterprise Versus Real Space Ships: A Comparison Chart

We all know that the starship Enterprise was big, but just how big was it? Science blog Supernova Condensate aimed to put it into perspective by compiling a nifty chart comparing the Enterprise to real-life space vessels. Takeaway? The Enterprise (if it existed) is huge. The Mercury capsule was tiny.

  1. Actually, judging by the silhouette, that’s the new Enterprise from the 09 movie, and that’s not big enough. If you track it down on Memory Alpha, you’ll find that its longer than the Enterprise E was, 700 meters. The number comes from the website for the film, so I guess that’s canon info.

    • Unless, of course, I am grossly miscalculating things. Not outside the realm of possibilities. And considering that the size of the ISS there is that big, I might just be. I know its scale fits inside a football field for its 2 larger dimensions, so I might be totally off.

      • Once more with feeling. The ISS on its longest dimension is just over 100 meters, 108.5 according the stations website. The original series Enterprise was j289 meters and it picked up about 20 more for the movies. The 09 Enterprise is 725 meters according to the blu ray extras. So, the silhouette, based on the tapered nacelles, is the 09 Enterprise, but the size is the old one.

So, yeah, that was how I spent my past 20 minutes… Guess I’ll check that off of my apparently burgeoning bucket list.
