Star Wars Resistance has a lot of ground to cover with a just few episodes left and honestly, I’m a little nervous about how they’re going to do it. But before we get there, we’ve got to talk about this week’s episodes. Yes, there were two of them. Continue reading

It’s January, and you know what that means – awards season!
And this year, two different Star Wars properties (so far) have a chance to take home some hardware. The Rise of Skywalker was nominated for three different BAFTAs (original score, sound, and special visual effects), while Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, the phenomenal ongoing comic whose run ended in December, scored a nomination for the GLAAD award for outstanding comic book. Not bad for our favorite disaster lesbian! Finally, the Oscar nominations were just announced this morning and The Rise of Skywalker was nominated for Original Score, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.
And in potentially the biggest Star Wars news of 2020 so far, R2-D2 is coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Probably not with a translator though, since we all know R2 can be a little foul-mouthed and there are a lot of kids around at Disney.
That’s another week in the books – now back to feverishly refreshing Twitter to see when they announce details around Project Luminous.
Book Wars Pod, Bonus Episode 23: Death, With Heavy Air Quotes
It’s part three of our The Rise of Skywalker reactions! Now that we’ve spent some time unpacking what we thought of the film, we turn to the story, how it affects the universe we already know, and what we want to see going forward in the galaxy far, far away.
Book Wars Pod explores the Star Wars universe through the franchise’s non-screen media: the canon novels, comics, and video games. Check out our guide to past episodes, and subscribe on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and wherever else you cast your pods. You can also subscribe to the Tosche Station Radio Mega Feed on iTunes Google Play, or Stitcher for more great shows from our podcast network.

Book Wars Pod, Bonus Episode 22: Throwing a Breadcrumb Into a Pit of Wookiees
It’s part two of our The Rise of Skywalker reaction! We talk about some of our reactions to the plot of the film, the pacing, and smaller issues we had with it.
Please note that this episode is an unfiltered, relatively negative take on the film – we’ll be back to our larger, objective, in-universe analysis in Bonus Episode 23.

Book Wars Pod, Bonus Episode 21: The Four Loko of Star Wars
It’s part one of our massive three-part reaction series to The Rise of Skywalker! Our hosts (including Kate, back from the dead, it’s a miracle) share their reactions to the film as a whole and dive into some issues they had with characterizations. We also discuss @spacejessss’s SWRepMatters article on the sidelining of Rose Tico: http://swrepmatters.com/impact-over-intention-justice-for-rose/

New year, new us! No wait… that last part’s a lie. Same us. We just changed our hair.
This early in the year, we don’t have tons of news for you but we do have a few things. First and mostly importantly, Baby Yoda will return this fall! Okay, fine: technically it’s called The Mandalorian but executive producers confirmed we’ll be getting Season 2 this fall.

In completely different news, Batuu will be getting its own exclusive version of Myths & Fables by George Mann. Says the author,
“We’re going to be creating a special edition of the ‘Star Wars: Myths & Fables’ book that’s exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge. It’s going to be specially bound to look like an artifact from Batuu and it contains the nine original stories and six new stories.”
We really liked the initial version of the book so it’ll be neat to see what else ends up in this new one.
And that’s it for this week!
Resistance Review: The Breakout
As we end 2019, I’m happy to say that we’re wrapping up the year the same way we started it. That’s right folks: at least for now, Star Wars Resistance is good again.
This week’s episode picked up right where last week’s “The Missing Agent” left off, showing us what happened to Yeager, Synara, and a thankfully, apparently repaired CB-23 in the wake of their fight with bounty hunter Ax Tagrin. Left without no one to rescue them except Kaz and Norath Kev (voiced by the always delightful Daveed Diggs), one might be forgiven for assuming the First Order had them in their clutches. But fear not, fellow fans – competent Kaz is back in action.
The Mandalorian Season 1 – Tosche Station Discusses
There has been a heck of a lot of Star Wars over the last few months and honestly, you couldn’t be blamed if you’ve had a hard time keeping up with it all. But now that we’re past The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian has concluded its first season, we thought it might be nice to look back at the latter… in round table format! Continue reading
Resistance Review: The Missing Agent
The Skywalker Saga might be over but that doesn’t mean that Star Wars is! Who would have thought only a few years ago that we’d be watching both a new Star Wars movie and have episodes from two Star Wars television shows on either side?
This week’s episode of Star Wars Resistance moves the plot forward a bit with an episode that actually delightfully ends on a cliffhanger! The Colossus picks up a distress call from someone named Norath Kev on a Resistance frequency. Kaz, CB, Yeager, and Synara go to check it out only to find that Norath has been captured by the bounty hunter Ax Tagrin… and that it’s definitely a trap! Continue reading

We really don’t have much for you this week because the itty bitty little space movie came out last week and… yeah. That’s basically it.
Related to that space movie, apparently the same sex kiss in Episode IX was cut from the movie when it was shown in the Middle East. Interestingly enough, it was kept in for screenings in China. It wasn’t exactly representation to write home about though.
In much happier news, Looking for Leia, a documentary series about female and non-binary Star Wars fans was acquired by SYFY Wire. All seven episodes are now available to watch online. It’s a project that many of us around here are fond of so me sure to go check it out!
And that’s it! Actually, that’s it for us/this particular column for the year. We’ll be taking the next week off to nap and to spend some time with family and friends for the holidays. Thank you to everyone who’s either read our posts or listened to one of the network’s podcasts over the year. We’ll see you all in 2020!
