RIP Leonard Nimoy

It is with great sadness that we tell you the news that Leonard Nimoy, the great Spock, died earlier today from the end stages of COPD.

We can only say this: lines from Spock’s funeral from The Wrath of Khan:

We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most… human.

warnogSo, this is awesome.  StarTrek.com just announced that Klingon Warnog – that is, Klingon BEER – is coming soon to the US and Canada.  With hints of banana, clove, and caramel, this should be a warrior’s drink.

Kicking off the show, we have a bit of news! Next week we’re going to be interviewing Essential Guide to Warfare author Jason C. Fry, so send us your questions.

Nanci starts the proceedings by highlighting what’s New on the Blog. Nanci talked about a run-in with survey takers at Star War Weekends. Over on White Hot Room, Bria gave a tutorial on how to do Endor Leia braids. Bria also reviewed Legacy #3.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been busy with more Star Wars Weekends. Both the hosts started reading Kenobi and Nanci’s also been reading Overdraft by John Jackson Miller while working on her own short story. The hosts were also busy watching Star Gate. Emily, on the other hand, has been dealing with all the television season finale feels.

Deak’s Dirt starts off on a musical note. John Williams wants to score Episode VII, to which we say duh. In Celebration Europe news, Attack of the Clones will be shown to attendees. Ashley Eckstein will be appearing and offering an exclusive Clone Wars shirt and Darth Vader dress. Want to buy art at Celebration Europe? Here are the prints! We’d like to say happy 30th birthday to Return of the Jedi! LEGO builds a full-size X-Wing. The entire Tosche Station staff drowns in a puddle of drool. Review: Star Trek Into Darkness (SPOILER ALERT)

star-trek-2-into-darkness-poster Other people have been looking forward to Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, or any of a number of other blockbusters coming out the summer.

But today is shiny and perfect because today, ladies and gentlemen, is Star Trek day, and if I have one thing to say to you all it is this:

Go see this movie. RIGHT NOW. I know, a lot of the reviews have been bad, but really, I don’t know if these people were watching the same film I watched this afternoon.
