The hosts kick off by highlighting what’s new on the blog since our last audio check-in. Emily wrote a column looking into why Star Wars needs women more than ever. Nanci discussed why we love Star Wars, and as hard as it is to believe, it’s more than just the lightsabers and explosions. Shane started up his retro review of Kevin J. Anderson’s Daarksaber. We asked you for your Star Wars Avengers. Finally, Brian checked in with his latest column that  investigates how The Legend of Korra is taking down gender stereotypes and the lessons Star Wars can draw from it.

Over in Fixer’s Flash, both Nanci and Brian have seen the Avengers (Brian several times now). Both the hosts now want some shawarma as a result. Nani has been reading through the Mageworld series, and from the sounds of it, she recommends it highly. She also has been working on her original novel and is posting excerpts over at her blog. Brian has finally gotten around to reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. Of course, he’s still reading Marvel comics and trying to catch up with his friends, but he took some time out to see Dark Shadows. It’s exactly what you should expect from a Tim Burton movie that’s remaking a 70s soap opera about a vampire.

This week on Tosche Station Radio, we’re excited to feature our first ever interview on the show.

Kicking off the show, we highlight what’s new on the blog. We asked you to tell us what kind of attractions you would like to see at a Star Wars theme park and you delivered some delightful suggestions. New blogger Maggie posted a spoiler-free review of the Avengers, Marvel’s latest entry into their successful film franchise. We’re not jealous that she was in the UK to see it a week early or anything. Meanwhile, we’re holding a contest. We’re sick of Mara’s awful catsuit, so we’re asking costumers and artists to replace it with something more appropriate.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been reading a neat young-adult novel called Across the Universe and is looking forward to completing the series. She’s also been rewatching firefly, something Brian ought to do. She also announced that she’s launched a new blog of her own devoted to her writing projects. Go check it out! Brian’s been keeping himself busy with Marvel’s comics and a rewatch of their films leading up to the Avengers. Unfortunately, he’s been too busy with midterms to do much beyond that. Boo midterms.

We’ve been promising it for a while and we’re finally giving it to you: our look back on Fate of the Jedi! Be warned, THIS EPISODE CONTAINS NUMEROUS SPOILERS FOR APOCALYPSE AND THE SERIES AS A WHOLE.

Brian and Nanci kick off the show by highlighting what’s new on the blog this week. We asked for your dream Star Wars EU novels on Twitter, and you delivered. Shane explained why Ewoks are nightmare fuel. Brian discussed the double standard between sports and geek fandom. We’ve also got a new review looking at the horror film Cabin in the Woods. Finally, we looked back at those awesome Micro Machines Action Fleet toys.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been enjoying Once Upon a Time and has gotten knee-deep into a brand new book. She also finished Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse and does she ever have thoughts about the book. Brian delves into a little more detail about Cabin in the Woods and gushed about it*.

*Which is saying something since he’s the world’s biggest horror movie wimp.

Sometimes we as fans can afford to behave better. This week we delve into some behavior we can all learn how to prevent to be better stewards of our fandoms.

Starting off the show, Nanci and Brian highlight some new articles up at the official blog. Shane’s got a look at what Scoundrels could mean for the Expanded Universe moving forward. Brian posted his retrospective of Fate of the Jedi and looked back at a history of questionable Star Wars video games. Emily (newest writer and Shane’s better half) had an academic look at fan fiction. Be sure to also check out Nanci’s latest for EUCantina, her retro review of Survivor’s Quest.

Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci talks about the latest movie she caught in theaters: Wrath of the Titans. Verdict? Not that great. She’s also started reading Apocalypse, the last entry in the Fate of the Jedi series. Brian’s still wrapped up in the Marvel universe, but managed to take some time off to meet up with a longtime fandom friend. Some of the best people you’ll ever meet will come through fandom. Both of the hosts were featured on the Star Wars Book Report podcast.*

*We’re so sorry for all the tangents. So. So sorry.

Fan creations are the on the minds of the hosts this week.

Before getting into the show, Nanci and Brian announce that the Tosche Station blog is having a giveaway contest to celebrate going live. You can win one of two copies of the Essential Guide to Warfare! Details here, enter in both places to double your odds. Be sure to also check out the news, reviews, and columns at the new site.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci went and saw Titanic in 3D and said it’s the best post-conversion 3D film out there. Of course, Brian’s a little more excited about the Prometheus trailer that showed before the movie started. Nanci is also (re)reading The Seasons of Passage and heartily recommends it. She also wrote a guest post over at Club Jade talking about fan fiction, a topic we’ll be visiting in today’s episode. In preparation for the Avengers next month, Brian has begun his Marvel films re-watch. More importantly, baseball season is back and he can geek out over advanced statistics! But something that will actually interest most listeners, Brian’s also posted the first part of his Fate of the Jedi series review over at the blog.

It’s a big, big week for Brian, Nanci, and Tosche Station Radio.

The show kicks off with an announcement: TSR has a new official blog! Brian, Nanci, and mutual friend Shane have launched Tosche-Station.net, a new site where the staff will write and snark about the news and issues in geek culture. With a heavy dose of Star Wars, of course. We’d like to thank Roqoo Depot for being our home for the first ten episodes and their help in promoting the podcast. As you’re listening to this episode, hop on over to the new site and check out Shane’s snarky look back at Children of the Jedi and Brian’s review of Essential Guide to Warfare.

Things get meta this week on Tosche Station Radio as Brian and Nanci dive into some of the great literary devices and themes that define Star Wars.

First up on Fixer’s Flash, Nanci plugs a Clone Wars season four roundtable she participated on over at Club Jade. She also got a glimpse at the upcoming Essential Guide to Warfare, which made Brian very jealous. Brian, on the other hand, is back into reading Marvel’s Civil War comics and is waiting for things to go horribly, horribly wrong with all of the characters he has grown fond of. He also admits he’s a sucker for musicals. Both the hosts briefly discuss some fanfiction projects that they’re in the process of wrapping up.

It’s a news-heavy week on Tosche Station Radio, but Brian and Nanci still have a discussion topic they’re eager to share.

Kicking off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci and Brian discuss the finale of The Clone Wars’ fourth season. Don’t look now, but Nanci might be shipping Obi-Wan and Asajj Ventress. Nanci has finished her re-read of Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and is jumping into At the Queen’s Command by Michael Stackpole. She’s also pretty enamored with the trailers for Snow White and the Huntsmanand Prometheus. Last week Brian went and saw Disney’s John Carter and proclaims that it is decidedly okay-ish. He’s also still wrapped up in the Marvel comics universe, having jumped into Runaways.

Brace yourselves, things get silly in this episode of Tosche Station Radio

Over in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci reveals she finally has a name for her new ride: The Starry Ice. Nerd cred there for naming it after an EU starship! Brian’s knee-deep in Marvel’s Civil War comics, which he’s been warned will make him cry.* He’s also planning on seeing John Carter after the recording, but we’re happy we managed to peel him away from Mass Effect 3 long enough to get an episode in.

*Not that this is anything new.

Tosche Station Radio #7: Wild Mass Guessing

Podcast: Stream HereDownload

In this week’s edition of Tosche Station Radio, Brian and Nanci get a bit ranty with the news and discuss what they would love to see in the post Fate of the Jedi Expanded Universe.

Starting off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci is re-reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and gives Brian a hard time for not having read it. She’s also looking for help naming her new car, but apparently Lady Luck is out of the question. How about the Wild Karrde? Brian is still trapped in the Marvel universe, having read through the House of M and diving into the Young Jedi Knights of the Marvel-verse, the Young Avengers. He also has a bit of trouble containing his excitement for Tuesday’s release of Mass Effect 3.
