On this week’s Tosche Station Radio, we’re joined by author, filmmaker, and Star Wars fan Bryan Young!

Kicking off the show, we highlight new Replace Mara’s Catsuit entries from kataja, Ellen, Bria, and Robert. Brian looked back at Isard’s Revenge and Emily wrapped up our series of X-Wing retrospectives with a fond review of Starfighters of Adumar.

In Fixer’s Flash, both Brian and Nanci have been pretty wrapped up with the Olympics. Nanci did find some time to read The Gathering Flame, the prequel to the Mageworlds trilogy. She also finished her Mirax costume! Brian apologized for live-tweeting the US Women National Soccer Team’s match versus Canada. Over the weekend he jumped into Marvel’s Siege comic arc and started reading Mageworlds again. He also spent the latter part of the weekend nervously watching NASA’s seven minutes of terror.

Deak’s Dirt opens with news that Brian and Nanci are thrilled about. X-Wing: Mercy Kill, the long-awaited tenth novel in the series, has hit bookshelves! In Celebration VI news, badges were revealed, Warwick Davis was confirmed, the We Love Prequels panel is returning, and the full schedule has finally been revealed. The Old Republic was recently confirmed as going free-to-play, but Brian’s unsure if this is good news for the game. Rounding out the news, Brian and Nanci are pumped that NASA successfully landed Curiosity.

This week’s Camie’s Concerns features author and Star Wars fan Bryan Young. The hosts and Bryan talk his writing and filmmaking career, his love of nerd culture, and all sorts of Star Wars related topics. Bryan dives in and discusses the previous Celebration conventions he’s been at and what you can expect from his Why We Love the Prequels panel. This week’s Tosche Station Radio brings us back to the X-Wing Retrospective and the Wraith Squadron arc!

Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. We ask just what’s in a Power Converter. Nanci asks EU fans to give Crucible and Troy Denning a chance. Brian looked back at Solo Command. On this week’s Cosplay Monday, the blog featured a magnificent Heimdall costume.

Fixer’s Flash is somewhat light this week. Both the hosts have Icarus Hunt tales to share. Nanci finished the first draft of her book and Brian finally put academia behind him.

In Deak’s Dirt, there’s a host of Celebration VI news including announcements of a Rancho Obi-Wan exhibit and the return of the Bounty Hunt game. Mary Franklin claims that the CVI schedule currently stands at nine feet long in the physical printout. Leland Chee discussed the Holocron on the official blog. Jena Malone was officially confirmed to play Johanna Mason in Catching Fire. In some bizarre (but awesome) rumors, will Mary Poppins duel a gigantic Lord Voldemort at the Olympic Games? Finally, we bid farewell to pioneer and trailblazer Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.

Camie’s Concerns this week brings us back to the X-Wing retrospective. This time around, the hosts dig into the Wraith Squadron arc and talk the plots and characters as well as examining the impact Aaron Allston’s novels have had on the Expanded Universe. It’s far more than just dogfights and blaster skirmishes.

For Wormie’s Works this week, Nanci highlights Star Wars Yoga and Brian links to an Indiana Jones vocal cover.

On this week’s Tosche Station Radio, the hosts delve into the touchy subject of romance in fiction!

Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. Beth sent in a Replace Mara’s Catsuit art entry. Emily brought us back to the Coruscant Craft Fair with a look at some Marvel-inspired shoes. Cosplay Monday featured Nate and Heather from Zhobot. Brian looked into a game that John Rhys-Davies and Mark Hamill appeared in.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci had herself a good time at a Wizard Rock show. She’s also been re-reading The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn. She also appeared on the Wrong Opinions About Movies podcast to talk about the hilariously awful Batman and Robin. Look for a link on the blog! Finally, she’s almost finished with her original novel! Meanwhile, Brian’s in comic mode having finished the Dark Reign arc and buying Captain Marvel #1.

Deak’s Dirt covers a host of information from San Diego Comic Con this week, specifically news from Dark Horse, Del Rey, and the Clone Wars creative staff. Mark Hamill was announced for Celebration VI, and there’s a bunch of new casting calls and rumors for Catching Fire. The hosts also take some time to talk Troy Denning’s new novel, Crucible, and go off on a tangent over fans that want Luke, Leia, and Han to die.

This week’s Camie’s Concerns revisits an article featured on the blog a few weeks ago, Rethinking Romance. We brought in Maggie to talk about why she wrote the piece and why she thinks we need to reevaluate our knee-jerk dismissiveness of romance in fiction and literature. The hosts and Maggie also touch on gender issues in fiction.

In Wormie’s Works, Nanci links to the Star Wars Love Poster by Mark Elwood and Brian rocks out to Book Eight – Another Harry Potter Song by nerdfighter Hank Green.

After a week off, the hosts are back and feeling extra tangent-y as they talk about conventions on this episode of Tosche Station Radio!

Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. Nanci reviewed Wraith Squadron and Iron Fist as part of Tosche Station’s ongoing summer X-Wing retrospective. Shane reviewed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the novel. We asked, and you delivered: the future of Star Wars at San Diego Comic Con. Emily recapped her trip to Fandom Fest. Finally, we’re starting a grassroots effort to get the release date of Scoundrels pushed up a week.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been busy reading Janine Spendlove’s latest book, War of the Seasons: The Half-Blood. She’s helping to prepare for a Wizard Rock concert. What’s Wizard Rock? Stay tuned and you’ll find out! Brian’s still reading Mageworlds, but mostly he’s lamenting his poor decision to stack college and work at the same time.

Deak’s Dirt brings casting updates from Catching Fire. The Dramatis Personae for Mercy Kill was released by Random house, along with a new excerpt featuring Myri Antilles. They also released the cover blurb for Scoundrels. Not content with just that, Random House also wants to record your fan fiction, and the hosts go on a tangent as a result.

In this week’s Camie’s Concerns, the hosts are tackling two topics. First off, they offer advice for those attending Celebration VI and Dragon*Con this year. Later in the segment, they discuss what future Expanded Universe books they expect to hear announced from San Diego Comic Con this week as well as what listeners and readers are hoping to have announced.

For Wormie’s Works, Nanci highlights Wizard Rock group The Whomping Willows and Brian links to EUCantina’s contest to raise awareness for children’s literature.

The hosts round out the show by answering questions from listeners and discussing the Trope of the Week: Genre Savvy.

This week on Tosche Station Radio, Brian and Nanci continue the summer X-Wing retrospective with a look back at the Rogue Squadron arc by Michael Stackpole.

On the blog this week, we introduced a new feature we’re calling Cosplay Monday. Each week we’re highlighting some costumers that have gone above and beyond to represent fandom and this week, we’re featuring Sylar and Sheila’s Korra and Tahno costumes. Maggie fired back at a New York Times article taking issue with The Hunger Games and romance in literature. Shane continued the blog’s look back at the X-Wing novels with his retrospective of The Bacta War. Meanwhile, Nanci reviewed Operation Montauk by Bryan Young.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci’s been keeping herself busy writing, but still managed to find time to finish reading Operation Montauk and start War of the Seasons by all-around awesome person Janine Spendlove. She also squeezed in time to see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It was everything you’d expect from a movie with that title. Meanwhile, Brian kept himself busy by watching Brave, Pixar’s latest film and one he thoroughly enjoyed. If you follow him on Twitter, you might have caught a barrage of Legend of Korra finale related Tweets. He’s also giddy that Futurama is back on the air and has started reading Mageworlds. You can blame Nanci for that.

Tosche Station Radio #21: Cliffhanger

On this week’s Tosche Station Radio, Brian and Nanci talk cliffhangers!

Kicking off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. Nanci did a guest spot over on the Star Wars Beyond the Film podcast talking about gender in Star Wars. Brian continued the summer X-Wing retrospective with his look back at The Krytos Trap by Michael Stackpole. Reader and listener Blizz sent in an art entry for the Replace Mara’s Catsuit contest.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci has been busy writing, but managed to find some time to re-watch the Star Trek reboot. She also watched Batman and Robin for a guest appearance on another podcast. One of these films was good. The other was not. She’s also been reading Operation Montauk by Brian Young. Brian finally saw Prometheus and while both the hosts initially enjoyed it, they liked it less and less the more they thought about it. After months upon months of prodding from Nanci, Brian finally read Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. The hosts launch into a (spoiler filled) impromptu discussion on the book.

In Fixer’s Flash this week, Nanci went and saw Prometheus and greatly enjoyed it. She was also at Star Wars Weekends livetweeting the Clone Wars news from Dave FIloni. Don’t look now, but she’s also gotten herself into costuming! Meanwhile, Brian finally discusses the goings on at the Origins Game Fair where authors Mike Stackpole, Aaron Allston, and Timothy Zahn held numerous panels discussing writing and Star Wars. A lot of interesting tidbits were divulged during the convention, including perhaps a story idea the three authors are hoping to pitch?

Tosche Station Radio #19: Snark-to-Snark Combat With Aaron Allston

On this week’s episode of Tosche Station Radio, Nanci and Brian sit down to interview the Expanded Universe’s most prolific author, Aaron Allston!

Kicking off the show, the hosts discuss what’s new on the blog, Shane kicked off our summer X-Wing retrospective with his retro review of Rogue Squadron. Brian was at Origins and posted a whole bunch of coverage from panels featuring Mike Stackpole, Aaron Allston, and Tim Zahn. Nanci posted the first of her new column series that aims to offer geeky (and snarky) advice about love, life, and fandom.

In Fixer’s Flash, Nanci says she recorded an episode of Star Wars Beyond the Films about women in Star Wars. Look for that to go live soon. She also went to see Snow White and the Huntsmen. Verdict? An overwhelming “meh.” The third round of Star Wars Weekends took place and Nanci was once again on hand, meeting author Jason Fry and Erich from Del Rey. Brian, as mentioned, was at Origins over the weekend, but he’s holding off on talking about that until next week.

It’s a brief episode of Tosche Station Radio this week, but the hosts still pack in the snark.

The show kicks off with a bit of housekeeping. First, Nanci recorded a guest spot on the Star Wars Beyond the Films podcast, so listen for her on a future episode. The Replace Mara’s Catsuit contest has also gotten an extension to August 15^th to give costumers enough time to put an outfit together for convention season.

On the blog this week, we received two art entries for the contest from Victoria and a costume submission from Blizz. We asked for your snarky suggestions on what the new Star Wars videogame franchise that will be unveiled at E3 might be. Shane discussed the stagnation of technology in the Star Wars universe. But the big news, however …

Tosche Station Radio #17: Better Than It Sounds

Starting off the show, the hosts highlight what’s new on the blog. Maggie wrote a column analyzing Natasha Romanoff’s role in The Avengers. Gorram Girl sent in the first entry for the Replace the Catsuit contest. In this week’s Twitter list, we asked you to tell us who your favorite non-Force sensitive Expanded Universe characters are. Nanci also implores you all to read the Mageworlds books.

Fixer’s Flash shows us that Nanci has been busy enjoying fandom. She caught the first installment of this year’s Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Somewhere in there, she also managed to finish the Mageworlds novels. Suffice to say, she loved it. Meanwhile, Brian went and saw The Avengers. For the fourth and fifth time. He’s also getting set to travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Origins Game Fair where long-time EU legend Aaron Allston is the guest of honor.
